Tim studied languages at university and did quite a bit of journalism while there. He first worked for Haymarket Publishing on non-wine related titles. In 1985, they had a job opening on their two wine magazines Wine & Spirit and Wine International. Tim applied via the then editor Joanna Simon, now Sunday Times columnist. He knew nothing about wine but bought a book, crammed for the interview and impressed Joanna sufficiently to get the job. In 2001 he became a Master of Wine - passing first time round after beginning his studies in January 2000. He also writes for Woman & Home, Decanter, Wine & Spirit and a number of other publications and also appears on BBC's Saturday Kitchen. Tim runs beginners wine courses at Viniteca - 6 evenings over 3 months.
