Wine Tips

    Managing Hangovers

Hangovers are a result of toxic chemicals found in alcohol called congeners. Congeners are natural by-products of the fermentation process and there are more in red wine than white. The higher the congener content the greater the hangover. Gin and vodka have the fewest while bourbon, brandy & red wine contain the most. Champagne & sparkling wines have more than still white wines. Also consider the alcohol content of wine. This can vary from 9% to 15.5% - a whopping difference. White wines tend to be lower in alcohol than red wines but in both there is still a spectrum to be found. So it can be deceptive when drinking wine - not all bottles are made equal. Best policy to avoid hangover...enjoy wine in moderation, with food and with plenty of water to prevent dehydration.
