Frost in the Vineyard
Frost Protection for the growing grape is essential in areas that are vulnerable to Frost.
Plants are particulalry vulnerable in contentental regions of the world where Spring and Autum frosts are common. Spring time after bud burst frost can kill off young buds. This is bad for the grower but can result in fantastic wine for quality producers as all of the vines energy is focused on a smaller number of grapes. Vines may attempt to have a second bud burst, if this happens it will result in considerably more effort by growers to seperate the ripe and unripe grapes. Volume producers often do not have the facities and resources to hand sort the grapes.
