Overview
This is not a wine book. It is a book from a wine phenomena. Crush It, is Gary Vay-ner-chuk’s move to leveraging his social media status built up through his wine business into the Business guru status. In Crush It Gary explains his life story, his outward ways and shows how he crushed it, first in baseball cards, then in wine. He gives plenty of tips for becoming a web personality, including a 21 point plan. But the final page sums the book up:
“Listen to your DNA... success – financial, personal and professional- lies above all in loving your family, working hard and living your passion.”
Gary is not just a wine guy. He sees himself as a business man giving sagely advice from the trenches. Crush It is a punch of energy to any entrepreneur. The message is delivered with energy and passion. And it is Gary’s passion as a businessman that surprised me the most. Wine is passion and a business, which is just the way it is. But it is one of his many passions: base ball cards, wine, business and social media. Crush It is true to Gary’s DNA, it is open, honest and an inspiring read.
The book itself is short and most could read it in a long afternoon, though I found myself having to speed read it, to keep up with Gary’s narration it has pace keeping me engaged and enjoying the read.
Crush It is part self help for those who want to be rich and famous and part insight into Gary’s “DNA”, as he would say. It speaks volumes about where Gary feels he is. Has he Crushed It yet? The answer is definitely yes, in the US at least. Will he crush other business, yes. Does he want you to be crushed? No. There is a lot of crushing and nobody gets hurt. Orange juice anybody?
An interesting wine book from a web and wine expert on how he did it. I liked it and give it 89 out of 100.
