Elie Maamari of Chateau Ksara in Lebanon on the wines of Chateau Ksara

This show was published 20 February 2009

Overview

Elie Maamari of Chateau Ksara in Lebanon talks to us about the wines of Chateau Ksara.

The winery was established in 1857 and celebrated its 150th anniversary last year. They are number one in the domestic market with 38% share of the annual production of 6 million bottles. They also export wine to 53 countries around the world concentrating on sales to the on-trade, mainly Lebanese restaurants and Asian restaurants. Chateau Ksara is a bigger and older winery but not as well known in the UK as Chateau Musar whose focus is more on export markets. The main grape varieties are Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot and for the whites, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.
