- UK Wine Show 173 Champagne Closures with Roger Begault of Duval-Leroy
Overview
Champagne house Duval-Leroy is experimenting with a new type of closure to replace the traditional champagne cork. We catch up with Roger Begault to find out more.
The closure has been developed in a joint initiative with closures experts Alcan and is referred to as their 'open concept'. Its a closure formed with a plastic outer and special lever with a crown cap inside sealing the bottle. The plastic top looks like a traditional champagne cork and makes the same 'pop' but doesn't shoot off. The closure is only being used on one of Duval-Leroy's special cuvees, the Clos de Bouveries 2004 and if successful may be extended to the 1999 vintage.
