- Piedmont with Enrico Rivetto
Overview
The Rivetto family began producing wine in 1902 in the province of Piedmont in North West Italy. In this third and final interview with Enrico Rivetto we find out more about the Piedmont region.
The region is mountainous and hilly with 4 distinct grape growing areas. On the north side the Nebbiollo grape dominates and the vineyards are close to the mountains with very sandy soils. Then there is the Asti region where the main grape is Barbera with less sand more aluvial, limestone soils. The region of Alba is mostly clay, this is where Rivetto estate is located. Finally there is Gavi with a flatter landscape and rolling hills. Dolcetto (sweet) and Gavi (white) are the main wines of this area.
