- UK Wine Show 202 Wendy Cheung on the HK Governments position on wine
Overview
Wendy Cheung, the principal assistant secretary for Commerce and Economic Development in Hong Kong, talks to us about the strategy for promoting wine consumption. Wendy looks after the promotional strategy for wine to take advantage of the trend for growing demand for wine in Asia and the major opportunity that mainland China represents for Hong Kong. This growth in wine has been fuelled by a reduction in alcohol taxes from 80% to 40% in 2007 and a further reduction in 2008 from 40% to zero. Hong Kong also has the advantage that it is a neutral, non-wine producing country and so is happy to sell and promote wines from all over the world.
