- UK Wine Show 77 aBecketts Vineyard Paul Langham
Overview
a'Beckett's Vineyard is situated half way between Avebury and Stonehenge in the village of Littleton Panell. They are one of 7 vineyards in Wiltshire.
A large area of chalk flows down into the valley where a'Beckett's are situated. The top soil is green sand with chalk below, both are free draining. The Salisbury Plain like a giant sponge - the river hasn't run dry in 130 years so no water problems so far in terms of drought or flooding. They are on a fairly steep slope facing East, sheltered from westerly winds and with early morning sun. A rain shadow protects them from the heavy downfalls over in Devizes creating a good micro-climate.
a'Beckett's grow 5 grape varieties: Pinot Auxerrois, Reichensteiner and Seyval Blanc on reds Pinot Noir and Dunkelfelder.
