- UK Wine Show 78 Rozes Port with Sarah Hicks
Overview
Sarah Hicks, Sarah is the UK Manager for Vranken Pommery Monopole. They are the people behind Port house Rozes and Sao Pedro das Aguias. We talk to her about Rozes, what are they trying to do in the UK, and which is more important - history or innovation?
Rozes was started in 1855 by Ostende Rozes a Bordeuax wine merchants. In 1999 LVMH the then owners of Rozes sold the brand to Vranken. At that stage Rozes did not have their own vineyards buying grapes from growers. But Rozes was a brand with international awareness. This complemented Vrankens earlier 1986 acquisition of Sao Pedro das Aguuias including vineyards, and the modern Rozes brand was born.
Rozes Port is not in the supermarkets but available though restaurants and independent wine merchants in the UK. Their 10 year old tawny is a personal favorite of mine. It also currently ranks as our third favorite wine in the ThirtyFifty Top 30.
