Overview
Blair and Estelle Hunt own Bald Hills in Central Otago, New Zealand. Their 2005 Pinot Noir scooped Champion Red at the International Wine Challenge in 2007 attracting huge interest. They also won the Regional trophy, the International Pinot Noir trophy and the inaugural IWC Planet Earth award for Sustainability as well as the Regional and International Over £10 Pinot Noir Awards at the Decanter World Wine Awards 2007.
The Bald Hills vineyard is situated in Bannockburn, Central Otago and was established in April 1997 when the Blairs bought 2 hectares of Pinot Noir. They have since planted a further 3 hectares of Pinot Noir, 1 of Pinot Gris and 1 hectare of Riesling. Their winemaker is Grant Taylor who is internationally acclaimed having won the IWC Champion Red twice and with 27 years winemaking experience including vintages in Burgundy and the USA. The wines are made at the Gibbston Valley winery with the first vintage under the Bald Hills label produced in 2002. In the UK Bald Hills wines are available to the on-trade via Ellis of Richmond targeting high end restaurants.
