Boycott South African wine? Don't worry nothing to see here, move on.

The South African wine trade are defending their corner again this week. Firstly to insist that the farmworkers' strikes have nothing to do with them, despite repeated union calls for further strikes and boycotts and secondly defending themselves against a poll in the Guardian.

The online poll asked Guardian readers ‘Will you boycott South African wine?. 59% said yes and 41% said No. Su Birch, CEO of Wines of South Africa, says in her open letter to the Guardian, ‘The coverage unfairly targets the South African wine industry and has the potential to do unimaginable damage to an industry that is working hard, through its support of the Wine and Agricultural Industry Ethical Association (WIETA), and also Fairtrade, to ensure the ethical treatment of workers.’
