China set to become the largest market for WSET wine courses.

Whilst the number of UK Wine & Spirit Education Trust students has increased by 11% last year, China has now overtaken the UK as the largest market for WSET training programmes. China now has 22 training centres and Hong Kong has a further 22.

Ian Harris WSET's chief executive told Harpers the WSET is on course to grow a further 20% in the next year following a 20% increase in the last year. People are more and more believing in the importance of education in their business, he added

He said the balance of students remained around three quarters from the trade and a quarter being general consumers. And there's an increasing number of people doing WSET courses who are looking to start a second career in wine.
