Chinese not taking away at Wine Expo
As reported here in February it is estimated the Chinese will be the world's 6th largest wine producer by 2016. At the recent Bordeaux Vinexpo 2013 many passed comment that previously the Chinese were there to taste and learn now they come to sell. In deed many were primarily there seeking distribution agreements.
Recent trading sensitivities with the French have prompted France's foreign minister Nicole Bricq to comment that distant markets did not always play by the same rules. Our policy is to support the wine sector, she said. But France remained positive having recently agreed initiatives with China to protect geographical appellations such as Champagne.
