Five countries make up half the worlds consumption of wine.
America is overtaking France as the biggest consumers of wine. France's per capita consumption is still much higher with the average French person drinking 1.2 bottles of wine per week, but total wine consumption in France fell by 7% while it rose in the US. Whilst the Americans are embracing wine the French are behaving more like the Americans, working longer hours with shorter lunches, as well as grabbing dinner on the go rather than gathering as a family. France still produces more wine than the US, but a significant portion of the world’s wine is consumed in America. In fact half of the world's wine is consumed by just 5 countries.
