China 2nd largest wine grower
China is now officially the worlds second largest wine grower after Spain. China currently has 799,000 hectares under vine, behind Spain who have 1 million ha. In a few years time China could even be number 1 as plantings surged 2-3 years ago and these vines haven't even started to produce yet. China imports grapes from all over the world, in particular they like their red wine. Grapes imported include Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Merlot and Chardonnay grown in the dry Ningxia, Sichuan and Hebei Provinces.
