Boat launch champagne banned
It's a long standing naval tradition that smashing a bottle of champagne to launch a new vessel brings good luck, but an Australian coastguard has banned it for being dangerous and bad for the environment. Which means the Mooloolaba coast guard will not be christening their new vessel Rotary 3 by smashing bottles this weekend instead it will be pouring a pre-opened bottle over its bow. It used to be considered bad luck if the bottle didn't break. People of the sea tend to be a bit superstitious about these things, so fingers crossed, four leaf clovers, black cats and lucky horseshoes to the Mooloolaba coast guard!
