Sassicaia 2015 claimed to be one of the best vintages
This week Armit wines is preparing to sell Sassicaia 2015 en primeur, in what is claimed to be the best vintage in 30 years. Sassicaia was the first Super Tuscan wine. A Super Tuscan is an Italian wine from Tuscany that uses French grapes, typically Cabernet Sauvignon. First launched in 1968 it quickly started to sell for higher prices than traditional Italian wine. This encouraged other producers to follow suit and the Super Tuscan was born.
This current vintage is considered to be as good as the legendary 1985, which, like the 2015, had a mild winter with heavy rain in early spring, then a hot summer with a touch of rejuvenating rain in August. John Armit is the only importer of Sassicaia and will go on sale for £565 for 6 bottles before tax, equating to £115/btl after tax. The wines will be shipped this summer.
