The UK is to launch its own Geographical Indicators
The UK is to launch its own Geographical Indicators or GIs. These protect the labelling of goods. Currently there are 86 GI-protected UK food and drink products, and include Scotch whisky, Irish whiskey, Darnibole wine (Camel Valley), English wine, ciders and beers. The hope is that a deal done will recognise UK and EU GIs. However, the UK will need to complete trade negotiations with other countries to enforce UK GI’s.
