Seltzers are growing fast in the USA and are being positioned as the drink for 2021 in the UK.
Hard seltzers are flavoured carbonated water with alcohol added and the category has seen huge growth in the US in the last year with brands now looking to launch in the UK in 2021.
Retail sales of the hard seltzer category in the US (take home market or off-trade) reached $1.5 billion in 2019, while in pubs and restaurants (on-trade) sales rose from $210 million in 2018 to $1.2 billion.
Seltzers rise has coincided with a general decline in consumption of wine in the US and many brewing companies have jumped on the bandwagon to produce them including Molson Coors, Corona and Budweiser.
They are very cheap to produce, often low in calories and typically sold in individual cans.
