UK government started free trade agreement negotiations with Australia and New Zealand

The British government has started free trade agreement negotiations with Australia and separately with New Zealand. With EU tariffs on wine from the two countries adding up to £35 million (as of 2016) it is not a significant amount but it could make the difference in consumers choosing entry level from Australia and France.

Wine is New Zealand’s largest export to the UK and the UK remains Australia’s largest export market for wine by volume, with 24.3 million 9-litre cases worth AU$347 million shipped in the year to 31 March 2020. It is currently the country’s third largest export market by value, behind China and the US.
