French wine sales to the US fell by 14% in 2020

French wine sales to the US fell by 14% in 2020, due to import tariffs placed on them by the Trump presidency over US claims of subsidies to EU plane maker Airbus.

The 25% import tariff on still wines at 14% or below from France, Spain, Germany and the UK was imposed in October 2019. The resulting deline in exports has been hardest hit by France who saw Bordeaux fall by 13.9% to €1.8bn.

In January 2021 the tariffs were extended to include all still wines including those over 14% and brandy, such as Cognac.
