UK pubs with outdoor space opened this Monday and on Tuesday sales were up on last year
Like-for-like sales were up 59% on the same time last year, but with only 38% of pubs having an outdoor space it is small beer in the big scheme of things.
Some wine merchants are trying to help, such as Berkmann Wine Cellars offering 50,000 bottles of wine to independent pubs with their “first case on us promotion.
While the pub trade has struggled hugely in the last year, some wine retailers are enjoying staggering sales uplifts. For example, Beckford Bottle Shop announced it will be opening a further 5 shops in the South West to add to its existing two stores. It will be some time before the pub industry is in such rude health.
