New Zealand wines are set for price rises after strong sales and a debilitating frost in 2021
The New Zealand 2021 harvest has been severely hit by a hard frost and so, with strong sales over the Covid period, shortages are likely.
Philip Gregan, CEO of New Zealand Winegrowers said “We are already seeing supply and demand tension as a result and we expect that many wineries will face tough decisions on who they can supply in their key markets over the next year.”
The quantity is small but the quality is high. “All reports indicate the quality of the harvest so far is exceptional, and we are looking forward to some fantastic wines coming out of this year’s vintage.” Gregan said.
Meanwhile, France's recent frost has cost an estimated loss as much as €2bn, according to France’s largest agricultural union, Fédération Nationale des Syndicats d’Exploitants Agricoles (FNSEA). The frosts on 7-8 April 2021, affected producers from Champagne to the Languedoc.
