UK bucks global Cava sales trend

Cava has increased worldwide volume sales in 2022, up 4.6% to nearly 250 million bottles. Export markets made up most of the volume at 69% of the total, but the UK bucked the trend with Cava imports down 15%, while Prosecco grew.

The growth in overall Cava sales has been driven by the domestic market with nearly a third of all Cava sold within Spain. Growth in Spain was a solid 13% up, reaching 78 million bottles. Meanwhile sales to key export markets was flat or down. Germany is Cava’s largest importer up a small amount 2.2% but the next three biggest export markets fell, the US down 9%, Belgium down 8.5% and then the UK down 15%. The next 5 biggest markets of Sweden, Japan, France, Netherlands and Russia all saw volumes rise.
