Bordeaux En Primeur price drop
Bordeaux En Primeur campaign is underway with a big drop in prices for the early releases.
Château Pontet-Canet's first tranche was released on the 30th April with prices down by 26.7% to €66 per bottle ex-négociant. It is not the first to release. Château Batailley was 11.9% lower than the 2022 vintage, but this wine was considered exceptional value in the 2023 campaign, and Léoville-Las-Cases released at a 40% reduction on the previous year.
The 2024 En Primeur campaign sells wines from the 2023 vintage. This was a more typical year than the hot, drought prone 2022 which produced concentrated wines but with lower acidity. The 2023 vintage was cooler and wetter, with mildew being a major factor. High quality producers will have dealt with the mildew problems through spraying and extensive sorting.
