English wine more than doubles
Production of English and Welsh wine more than doubled in 2009 to 2.5 million litres, up from 1 million bottles in 2008. Red production went from 300,000 bottles to 700,000 bottles, hitting an all time high. According to Julia Trustram Eve of English Wine Producers, many new vineyards came into production for the first time adding to the volume and the weather conditions in Autumn helped turn the vintage into a bumper crop.
