Chateau Margaux adds third label

Chateau Margaux will launch a third wine this year, alongside Chateau Margaux and the second wine, Pavillon Rouge. Until now wine not considered high enough quality for Pavillon Rouge was declassified from Chateau Margaux and would be used for a generic AOC Margaux made most usually by a wine merchant. However, the 2009 vintage was so good and all the barrels aged so well that the estate decided to create a third wine. The name of the wine has not yet been revealed and it will not be sold en primeur as Chateau Margaux and Pavillon Rouge are, but will be kept back in bottle. Managing Director Paul Pontallier said it was highly likely that the quality of the 2010 would mean they would also do the same thing this year.
