Rosé going out of fashion?
This time last year rosé was enjoying a fashionable reprise with a 9% growth in sales - out-performing both red and white wine sales in the UK. And this has been the trend since around 2003. But what a difference a year makes - this year rosé sales are experiencing a 2% decline and the average price has risen by 5%. Last year South Africa was putting good growth into the market at cheap prices and the average bottle of rosé was £4.31 compared to a market average for wine of £4.50. Its not all doom and gloom though, for whilst 2010 may have the been the peak for rosé sales, suppliers believe it's presence on the shelves is here to stay, as there is still an appetite for pink wines.
