Why Gin makes you cry

Gin is increasingly popular in the UK right now. With sales propping up the UK pub trade. But why does this popular drink known as mothers ruin make people sad? Alcohol physchologist Paul Toner explained that its high alcohol content makes you sad as alcohol drunk in large quantities acts as a depressant. Alcohol depresses the central nervous system therefore making people less able to regulate their thoughts and feelings. It became known as Mothers Ruin in the 18th century in England when women were allowed to drink the spirit alongside men. This led to high crime rates, child neglect and prostitution. By 1763 the Gin Act was instilled to calm things down.
