- Mark de Vere MW on Robert Mondavi and Mondavi wines
Overview
Robert Mondavi struck out from the family Lodi wine business when he was 53. His first vintage in 1966 was one of the earliest producers to make fine wines in Napa family.
Over the years Robert Mondavi wines have gone from strength to strength increasing vineyard holding in California and creating unique brands such as Opus One.
After a listing on the stock exchange Constellation Wine acquired Mondavi wines and, while run at arms length, has benefited from access to capital and sales force.
