- Vertical Margaux Tasting with Benjamin Sichel of Chateau Angludet Part 2
Overview
We taste the 2006 a 'Classic +' vintage, followed by the 2005 vintage. 2005 is the most classic of the recent vintages and will continue to improve, not yet at its best. Benjamin reveals how the 1961 vintage is still the best he has tasted (he only tried it in 1996) and thinks the 2005 could well live up to it. 2005 driest season ever, but not as hot as say 2003. This produced smaller berries than normal, with higher skin to flesh ratio, dense grapes. Benjamin describes how they vary the blend of Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Sauvignon from year to year, depending on the growing conditions, to achieve just the right balance in the wine.
