- Gavin Monery on London Cru
Overview
Gavin Monery is the Australian-born winemaker at the London Cru Winery in London, near Earls Court - the capital's first urban winery. They don't grow any grapes, Gavin sources grapes from across Europe (and the UK) and ships the grapes back to London to make the wine here. They wanted to start a winery in London and demystify the whole production approach. Visitors to the winery can learn about the production process, see how the equipment works and have a go at blending wines. The single varietal wines they are producing are being sold to 35 restaurants in London via Roberson wines and direct to consumers. We talk about the sourcing of the grapes, issues around legislation and the wines.
