- Caroline Dessort on Monastrell
Overview
Caroline Dessort is from the Yecla wine region in Spain. One of the key grape varieties is Monastrell, also known as Mourvèdre in France and Mataró in Australia. It produces quite heavy, tannic wines that can be high in alcohol. It is made into a single varietal but more commonly it is blended with other grapes such as Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon to make an easier drinking, smoother wine. In Yecla they tend to blend Monastrell with Petit Verdot, Syrah and Merlot.
