- Lynn Hale on the effects of Covid-19 on your palate
Overview
Lynn is a retired GP and a newly qualified WSET Level 2 student. She had Covid-19 and talks to us about how it has affected her sense of smell and taste. She found that tastes were distorted, for example coffee tasting of burnt rubber, water tasting strange. Her sense of bitterness increased and within 3 days, for example, fresh basil smelt bitter and toothpaste not minty at all but really quite vile. Lynn also experienced a loss of her sense of sweetness - she couldn't taste her tea, it tasted of hot water, but when adding sugar but could not taste it at all. Food also tasted more salty and metallic. Fortunately, Lynn has since made a good recovery and is starting to regain her normal sense of smell and enjoy her wine!
