- Daniel Lambert on importing wine in Brexit Britain Part 1
Overview
Daniel is a wine merchant importing wines since 1992 from 11 nations - the US, Canada, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, France, Portugal, Spain, Italy, Austria and soon, Germany. They are an agency business supplying c. 250 retailers around the UK as well as supermarkets, airlines and the on trade. Covid has changed his business but has resulted in a 400-500% increase during the period. Daniel talks to us about the process now for importing wines from the EU and the additional paperwork and associated costs involved in moving stock. For example, badges are required for bringing wine in via deep sea ports or roll on/roll off ferry ports - these need to be paid for and also attract a monthly fee. The current problems aren't just related to trading with the EU, they are global issues and Covid has also caused problems, for example delays caused by containers being in the wrong locations due to Covid & PPE shipments.
