- Grafting Vines with Sam Doncaster Part 2
Overview
In this second interview, Sam Doncaster explains in detail the part of the process when the grafted vines are ready to be planted in the nursery (not the vineyard). The planting starts in the summer months in a field, where they are planted in rows, all labelled up and colour coded, as there may be up to 200 variations of clones, rootstocks, varieties etc. During the growth phase, the length of the roots are kept to a fairly short length, and the buds are trimmed back to a single shoot. When the plants are ready they are packed into cartons and stored in a cool house by Christmas time.
