- UK Wine Show 42 Matt Skinner
Overview
Australian-born Matt Skinner is sommelier at Jamie Oliver's Fifteen restaurant and a well-known personality in the UK wine world. Matt tells us how he got to where he is today, starting 13 years ago in an Aussie bottle shop. From there after a spell in the UK in 1994 he returned to Melbourne and began working for an independent wine merchant. In 2000 Matt applied for a scholarship with the Negotiants Wine Fellowship, along with 1000 other applicants. He won the scholarship and embarked on a year long programme learning about wine. His prize included a 5 week trip around Europe. 4 years ago Matt met Jamie Oliver through a mutual friend when Jamie was touring Australia. They kept in contact and when Jamie was setting up the Fifteen Foundation he asked Matt to look after the wine for the first restaurant in London. Matt is now head of wine operations for the 4 Fifteen restaurants (London, Amsterdam, Cornwall, Melbourne) and continues to work 3 days a week on the floor in London helping customers select their wine.
