Rude wine shows titillation can grow sales

A Cabernet-based red blend from Lazio Italy is causing a furore in New Hampshire and may have to be relegated to the top shelf. The wine called If You See Kay 2010 which said aloud sounds like the spelling of a four-letter expletive is getting local councillors in a twist. Two executive councillors have questioned the State Liquor Commission’s judgement in allowing the wine to be sold at state stores in New Hampshire as they feel it violates community standards.

However, bolstered by the controversy, the wine, priced at $19.99, is selling very well. Joseph Mollica, chairman of the State Liquor Commission said We don't want to offend anybody but we don't want to miss an opportunity either.

If You See Kay’s owner Jayson Woodbridge is best known for producing cult California wine Hundred Acre, which sells on release for around $250 a bottle.

But residents of New Hampshire aren't shy - a wine called Ménage à Trois is among the 10 best selling wines in the area.
