Octavian Vaults running out of space
Octavian Vaults, located 100 feet beneath the Wiltshire countryside in Corsham, store the planet’s most expensive bottles of wine - with stock estimated to be worth more than £1 billion. The old stone mines are ideal for keeping the vintages owned by the world's super-rich in pristine condition, but they have a problem...they're running out of space.
With no new stone mines being excavated out of the Bath stone near the town of Corsham they are looking for another solution - to build a new store above ground. But the proposed 6,000 sq metre building which replicates the ideal conditions for storing fine wine has met opposition.
Corsham town council has now formally objected, saying that the development is too big for the countryside, that the shiny roof – designed to keep the sun’s warmth out of the climate control surroundings below – will mean the building will be visible for miles around and that it would create traffic problems. So far, 32 residents have objected, but they will have to wait until the New Year for a decision from Wiltshire council planners.
