English wine week events this weekend
English Wine Week starts this Saturday from 24th May until Sunday 1st June. Over the week vineyards and outlets across the country will be highlighting English wines, in many cases offering an opportunity to taste and get to know English wines better. There is a gourmet and wine bus tour in Sussex taking visitors around the country’s top vineyards Ridgeview and Bolney. Britain’s largest vineyard Denbies is kicking off the week with a barn dance and barbecue on May 24th. Many of the vineyards also have luxury accommodation where you can stay and taste wine from the vineyard.
Whilst most of the vineyards are in the Southeast you’ll also find wine producers in Nottingham and Yorkshire. If you want to get an idea of the breadth of English Wine, the Vineyard Hotel in Berkshire – which has more than 30,000 bottles in its cellar – is showcasing British wine including Nyetimber sparkling wines from West Sussex and a Danebury Cossack bubbly from Hampshire. And if the weather is good what a great way to spend an truly English bank holiday weekend? See Twitter @englishwineweek for events and offers and check out @englishwinelove for a run down on vineyards that might be local to you.
