Conviviality buys Bibendum PLB
It's been all change at Bibendum lately. Back in November 2014 the big shake up was the merger of Bibendum and PLB, combining on-trade and off-trade skills. This included the acquisition of Walker and Woodhouse to handle the independent retail side. And now this week
drinks wholesaler & retailer Conviviality has announced that it has have acquired Bibendum PLB with effect from 20th May. Conviviality owns off licences Wine Rack and Bargain Booze and drinks wholesaler Matthew Clark and say the move will help strengthen Conviviality's independent on-trade business. Bibendum PLB has five distinct trading companies each focused on a different market sector: Bibendum (on trade), PLB (multiple retail), Walker & Wodehouse (independent retail & wholesale), Instil Drinks Co (spirits and beer) and The Wondering Wine Company (events). All five trading companies will continue to operate as normal within Conviviality and it remains business as usual under the new ownership. Bibendum PLB’s leadership team, including CEO Michael Saunders, remain in place and no significant changes are envisaged in the near future. Michael Saunders said in a press release the move is a positive step to help the business evolve and develop.
