Bah Humbug to UK Health Body

Just as the Christmas party season starts, senior health advisers in England are lobbying for higher prices on wine, beer and spirits, calling on the government to re-consider minimum pricing on alcohol. Minimum pricing was last rejected in 2013 in the UK, however Scotland is planning to introduce a floor price of 50 pence per unit of alcohol on all drinks, a move that is due to be heard in the UK supreme court. There has been little sign this year that the government is keen to shift its stance on pricing on England & Wales. Such a policy might also prove difficult given the current concerns over rising consumer prices in the wake of Brexit vote.
