Chile harvest smaller and earlier than usual

The Chilean harvest is small and up to a month earlier according to reports from Decanter magazine. Michel Friou, winemaker at Maipo’s Almaviva, where yields were down 26%, said '2017 is clearly an atypical vintage, marked by extremely high temperatures, early physiological stages from budding to harvest, and particularly low yields.’

Away from the cooling coast, inland Chile experienced soaring temperatures. Fernando Almeda, winemaker at Torres claimed ‘most of the reds have ripe fruit aromas, Carmenere shows intense red and black cherry aromas with a jammy character.'
