The US Navy passes on Champagne for Barefoot Moscato to christen ships.
Champagne has historically been the bottle of choice for celebrations and launching/christening ships. It appears the US Navy has decided that Barefoot’s Sparkling Moscato is the prefered choice. With sailors having a reputation for being superstitious, it is important for the US Navy to ensure an explosive smash when the bottle is shattered against the hull during the christening. Research has shown that Barefoot’s Sparkling Moscato is the most reliable bottle to break. Closer to home the UK’s news aircraft carrier the Queen Elizabeth was christened with a bottle of Bowmore, an Islay whisky from western Scotland.
