Genii, the Champagne bubble protector, is launched
A gadget that preserves sparkling wine has been launched called Genii claiming to deliver maximum bubbles with zero waste.
Although there are a number of excellent preservation systems for still wines, sparkling wine has always been a bit trickier. Not only must the system protect the wine from oxygen, it must also stop the wine going flat.
Genii solves this by adding a cap to an opened bottle which both allows any oxygen in the bottle to be expelled before topping up with inert CO2 gas from a cartridge.
The system is designed to operate in top end restaurants allowing them to offer slower moving, high end champagnes by the glass.
It will cost £330, including three bottle caps and 10 CO2 cartridges which is enough for 120 top ups.
