UK hospitality turnover drops by over 50% in 2020

The hard hit UK hospitality sector in 2019 was worth £133.5bn but in 2020 this had shrunk to £61.7bn, according to the latest edition of the UK Hospitality and CGA Quarterly Tracker.

The overall drop of 54% was only slightly worse in the last quarter from October to December, down by 57%.

In such a difficult year it is hard to imagine new business opening up, but 3,955 licensed premises opened in 2020, but sadly, many more closed with a net decline of 5,975 pubs & restaurants according to CGA and AlixPartners.
