Liberty searches for wine Apprentice

Liberty Wines’ managing director David Gleave MW is taking a leaf out of Sir Alan Sugar’s book by launching a search for The Apprentice.

Liberty hopes to hire one promising person who will learn about all aspects of the wine trade. This will include working a vintage with one of Liberty’s winemakers as well as taking the Wine & Spirit Education Trust’s Advanced Certificate and Diploma.

The company is embarking on the scheme because Liberty has struggled to find people who are well-suited to the wine industry over the last few years, said David Gleave. ‘We have found any number of people who are technically able but have poor product knowledge, and many others who have an affinity for the type of wine that Liberty sells but little concept of how to sell or market it.’ He told ThirtyFifty, ‘Such a hands-on apprenticeship programme will provide a unique opportunity for the development of enthusiastic people within the wine industry.’

Liberty will recruit a new apprentice each year and the first one will start in August.
