Coravin unveils its new sparkling wine preservation system

For some time, Coravin has been a leading method of tasting still wines from the same bottle over a period of months. Now they have launched their new sparkling wine system.

The new system is designed to let the wines be sampled but not to lose their fizz. It does this by having a capsule that goes over the top of the bottle of sparkling wine, and provides the seal to pressurise the wine with a CO2 gas. This is similar to a number of other sparkling wine preservation systems such as the Presorvac. It is expected the wine will be preserved for up to two weeks.

The new system is quite different to the still wine system which inserts a needle through the cork into a bottle. The needle has two channels, one to push argon into the bottle, the other to let the wine pour out.

Available to buy from the Coravin website later this summer, the Coravin Sparkling system, which includes two Sparkling Stoppers, will cost $399 or £282 (UK pricing yet to be announced). Coravin Pure Sparkling CO2 capsules will be available in 6- and 12-packs, costing $44.95 and $79.95 respectively. Additional stoppers will be sold in two-packs for $89.95.
