Australia is flooded again

Australia is flooded again with flood water taking weeks to drain, disrupting the Australian Spring.

Flooding was already underway in south-east Australia last week, per reports, with “major flooding” occurring in New South Wales and along rivers in Victoria.

As the flood water from NSW drains into the Darling River and Victoria into the Darling River, both the rivers combine inland, into the mighty Murry Darling river that carries water past much of Australia's vast inland wine regions. It could be weeks before the flood water eventually drains out into the ocean near Adelaide.

With the catchment areas upstream being full, large volumes of water have had to be released, flooding the vineyards of the two well-known wineries right by the river – All Saints Estate and Pfeiffer Wines.

All Saints winemaker Nick Brown said his 3.2 hectares (eight acres) of Shiraz vines, that were planted in 1920, are sitting in a metre of water and will yield no crop at all this growing season.
